The magic of hosting season is just around the corner, and itâs time to start thinking about the preparation. We love hosting, so weâve come up with our ultimate guide on how to get your home ready for hosting season.
Start with decluttering. Â
A good place to start is by decluttering your space. Clothes, toys, and old paperwork youâve kept stored for 15 years. For clothes, toys, and items in your kitchen cupboards, try using the 12-12-12 method. A simple method that isnât overwhelming and really makes a difference. Throw 12 items away, donate 12 items to friends, family, or charity, and keep 12 items â preferably items you use daily. Have a go and let us know if the 12-12-12 method worked for you.
For paperwork and documents, itâs important to read everything to ensure youâre not throwing away something important. Consider what needs to be kept and what can be discarded.
Top tip â Use a shredder to destroy any confidential paperwork!

Planning is key Â
For successful hosting, planning is essential. A solid foundation will help you be the host with the most:Â Â
- Define your event: Are you hosting friends-giving, pre-Christmas dinner, or the main event itself? What do you want your guests to experience?Â
- Finalise your guest list: Who is coming and who has any dietary requirements.Â
- Set a budget: Itâs a busy time of year, so being clear with your budget and keeping consistent with spend, means you can navigate the season not worrying about finances come January.
- Choose the date that works: Invite your guests plenty of time in advance and make sure you set an RSVP deadline, so you know who is 100% committed to your event.
Event Logistics Â
Getting the logistics right will really help your event go off without a hitch. Â
- Venue: Make sure your venue has enough room for your number of guests.
- Cooking or catering? Develop a menu in advance or seek out caterers who can do the hard work for you.
- To theme or not to theme: Whether you want to throw yourself into a theme or not, itâs good to consider the overall atmosphere you want to achieve for your guests.
- Entertainment: At this part of the planning stage, you need to decide if you want entertainment⊠our advice would be to do your research, get multiple quotes, or use an events company that can recommend entertainment that would suit your event. Â
Decorating Â
For us at Targwall, this is undoubtedly our favourite bit â styling your space. Â
- Consider seating â Who sits next to whom? Are you opting for round tables or a banquet table? This depends on the room you’re hosting in, the number of guests, and the space available. Â
- Set the scene: If youâre opting for a themed event, incorporate this in your table settings. A top tip is to use a seating plan to direct guests on where to go.
- Enjoy! All your hard work has paid off, and your guests are loving it. Now itâs time to sit back, relax and enjoy yourself. Â
